We hear it often: “I don’t consider myself a hero” or “I was just in the right place at the right time” and “ I was doing what anybody else would do.” In about every instance, we believe them.
America is good and full of good people. We rush to the sound of trouble whether it is as simple as a broken water line flooding a basement or the spot where a bomb had gone off moments before. We do unto others as we would have them do unto ourselves, and that often means giving a helping hand.
We are not surprised at the levels of generosity offered at the moment of tragedy but are often amused when the media finds levels of support to be so surprising. Where do these journalists live? What have they done to their neighbors to make them not want to rush in to help? Most of us here at MyFoodStorage.com have traveled extensively across the United States and affirm that caring IS the American way. It motivates soldiers, police, firemen, medics, and most of the citizens of this great country.
Our experience has been that it is often the nature of the hero to be prepared. When we ask our customers why they purchased food storage, the number one answer is “I just want to be prepared.” They often say it in the same inconspicuous tone as the person on the news saying “I don’t consider myself a hero.” Heroes are often the ones that are level-headed and relatively calm during crisis and since desperation can amplify chaos, preparation can be a great antidote to fear.
Inevitably, disasters will come and as sure as there are disasters, there will be people who can keep their wits about them and who will step in. When they are thrown in front of a news camera they will simply say “I was just in the right place at the right time.”
So to the unassuming Hero- the one that was just in the right place at the right time, whatever the divine providence was that put you there, we are grateful for your ability to step in and do the kinds of things that “anybody else would do.”
